📚 My Second Home at UKM: Tun Seri Lanang Library & Its New Study Rooms
Hey everyone! 👋 If you’ve been following my blog, you know I’m always on the hunt for the best spots to study and hang out on UKM’s campus. This semester, my go-to place has been Perpustakaan Tun Seri Lanang — the main university library, and I’m here to tell you why it’s become my second home.
🌟 First Impression: The Iconic Red Stairs
The library’s entrance is hard to miss with its bold red staircase (the one in my photo!) and that distinctive triangular facade with blue Malay and English lettering. I still remember my first time climbing those stairs — it felt like I was walking into a hub of knowledge, and the mix of students rushing up and down made me excited to explore what was inside.
🛋️ Inside the Library: Warm, Spacious, and Full of Surprises
Stepping through the doors, you’re greeted by bright orange floors, tall wooden pillars, and rows of red bookshelves that stretch far into the distance. The space is huge, with plenty of quiet study nooks, computer stations (like the blue chair setup in my pic!), and cozy seating areas where you can flip through textbooks or take a quick break.
I love how the library balances “silent zone” areas for focused studying with more relaxed spots where you can chat quietly with friends. The natural light streaming through the windows and the soft hum of students working make it the perfect place to escape the chaos of campus life.
🤝 This Semester’s Game-Changer: New Group Discussion Rooms
The best news this semester? The library added brand-new group discussion rooms! As a Business Administration student, I spend a lot of time working on group projects, and these rooms have been a lifesaver.
Before, we’d crowd around a table in the campus café (loud!) or huddle in a hallway (uncomfortable!). Now, we can book a room online, grab our laptops, and spread out around a big table with a whiteboard, plenty of power outlets, and comfy chairs. Last week, my team and I spent 3 hours in one of these rooms prepping for our marketing presentation — we brainstormed ideas on the whiteboard, shared screens, and even ordered bubble tea to keep us going. It was so much more productive than our usual spots, and we aced the presentation! 🎉
📖 More Than Just a Study Spot
What I love most about Tun Seri Lanang Library is that it’s not just a place to study — it’s a community. I’ve met classmates in the discussion rooms, found rare textbooks for my courses, and even joined a study group that meets here every weekend. The staff are super friendly too, always ready to help you find a book or fix a computer issue.
Whether you’re cramming for an exam, working on a group project, or just need a quiet place to read, this library has something for everyone. If you’re a UKM student who hasn’t checked it out yet, I highly recommend climbing those red stairs and seeing what it has to offer.
